Interim Superintendent Dr. Allen Duncan started the meeting with his Superintendent’s Report, which included information about the Board’s goals. The five goals he outlined are as follows:

Goal #1: We will provide high-quality, equitable, and student-centered learning experiences to increase the educational and personal growth of each child.

Goal #2: We will support, retain, and recruit high-quality and diverse employees that reflect our students, staff, and community and are equipped to meet their needs.

Goal #3: We will foster an equitable, safe, and inclusive environment for all members of our school community.

Goal #4: We will develop and strengthen genuine connections and partnerships that will produce positive outcomes with students, families, educators and the community.

Goal #5: We will achieve strong financial standing that provides a value to taxpayers while optimizing programs, services, and facilities at maximum efficiency.

Duncan noted that these goals will shape future conversations about the Board’s work. He explained that he wants the Board to consider these goals during future work sessions and come up with priorities that align with the goals.

“What are our priorities for 26–27 that will help us achieve that goal?” he said. “We have the conversation, we determine the priorities, and then what I will do is I will take those priorities back to my team and we’ll create the action steps to achieve those priorities. The Board will help draft the priorities and we will take the action steps that will get us there.”

Later in the meeting, the Board was asked to approve the Board of Education Expectations. This document is reviewed biennially by the Board and includes information about Board Member Orientation, Roles & Responsibilities, and more.

Board members can refer to the Board of Education Expectations when listening to concerns from the community, preparing for Board meetings, visiting schools, and posting on social media, among other topics. The Board was asked to agree to these expectations. The Board voted 6–1 to approve these expectations, with Board member Scott Ahart casting the no vote.
