Multiple amphitheater-related items are on the Alton Committee of the Whole agenda for Monday, March 9, 2026, including:
A resolution authorizing the engagement of Contemporary Productions for the 2026 Alton Amphitheater season.
A resolution approving a request from Alton Main Street to rent the Alton Amphitheater for the Mississippi Earthtones Festival.
A resolution approving a request from Bud Summers Music Foundation to rent the Alton Amphitheater for a special event.
Amphitheater Seeks Event Management Contract
Late last month, Rob Honke with the Alton Amphitheater Commission requested the city’s permission to partner with Contemporary Productions as part of a new approach to expand the venue’s event offerings and more.
According to the related resolution, Contemporary Productions would be tasked with managing and producing events for the 2026 season, “including three signature events” and strategic planning to enhance amphitheater operations and the “audience experience.”
The Event Management Contract between the city and Contemporary Productions lists three events to be managed by the new company in 2026, including the Alton Fireworks Festival on July 3, the Food Truck Festival on Aug. 22, and the Jazz & Wine Festival on Aug. 29, with each date pending City Council approval.
If the contract is approved, the city would agree to pay Contemporary Productions a total of $89,818.60 to produce these events, paid in three installments from April 1 to Sept. 11, 2026. The contract would be valid for one year until 2027 and could then be renewed with the written consent of both parties.
Planning Begins For Mississippi Earthtones Festival
An agreement laying the groundwork for the 2026 Mississippi Earthtones Festival is also on the agenda.
This year’s festival would be held on Sept. 19, 2026 if the amphitheater rental agreement is approved for the event, though an exact time has yet to be determined.
An Event Proposal in the committee’s meeting documents describes the Mississippi Earthtones Festival as a “free, family-friendly celebration of our river through art, music, and conservation.”
“This event spotlights local talent, small businesses, and environmental stewardship,” according to the proposal, which notes the event will feature over 100 educational booths, food and beverage vendors, live music, and “interactive art experiences.”
Music Festival To Honor Late Musician, Support Scholarships
Another request on the agenda for a special amphitheater event comes from the Bud Summers Music Foundation, which is seeking to host the Porch Café Music Festival in Honor of Bud Summers. The 2026 music festival would be held on Oct. 11, 2026 from 1 to 5 p.m.
The festival is described as an event where “Riverbend area musicians come together to honor local music legend Bud Summers” in the Event Proposal, which states the free, public event will also feature live music, food trucks, and craft vendors.
The Bud Summers Music Foundation and Porch Café band have partnered to create scholarships for local musicians; as part of the event agreement, the city has agreed to pay back 20% of all beer sales from the event back to the festival organizers after the concert is held.
