
BLOOMINGTON — Roxana’s Chloe Skiles emerged as the area’s lone state champion wrestler over the weekend, winning the 110-pound title at Grossinger Motors Arena as the Shells placed fourth as a team in the state tournament.

Skiles went 4-0 in the 110-pound bracket. She won her semifinal match over Valeria Pesantes of Elk Grove by fall at 3 minutes, 23 seconds, then captured the championship by fall in 41 seconds over Zoey Dodgers of Franklin Park-North Lake Leyden.
Roxana teammate Madelyn Murphy earned a fourth-place finish at 100 pounds. Murphy lost the third-place match to Alex Gregorio-Perez of DeKalb, 3-1.
The Shells finished fourth in the state tournament with 45.5 points.
Skiles and Murphy are Midwest Members Credit Union Female Athletes Of The Month for the Shells.
Roxana Athletic Director Mark Briggs acknowledged the team’s results in a statement over the weekend posted by Roxana Senior High School.
“It’s another great day in Shell Country! Huge congratulations to our Girls Wrestling team on bringing home two state medals today,” Briggs said.
