About this event

Comic Strips/Books and Illinois: A Living History
Thursday, June 20 | 6:00pm
Presented by: Stephen Harrick
Ages 13+   Illinois has shaped all aspects of American life, including the funny pages, comic books and graphic novels. While Chicagoland has birthed memorable characters (Dick Tracy, Blondie, Brenda Starr), downstate has also made lasting contributions to the culture—Popeye, Superman, Black Panther. From creators and publishers to printers and educators, the state of Illinois has left its impression on comics history.   While this presentation focuses on comics and Illinois history, it also involves a U.S. President, Hollywood, Broadway theatre, and the Mob. From Pulitzer Prizes to police raids, this hour-long presentation with visuals will examine the unique, the inspiring, the silly and the downright strange in Illinois history.
