Pulido said a preliminary investigation found that the train had just crossed the Tolle Lane railroad crossing when, about one-third of a mile beyond it, it struck a pedestrian already on the tracks.

"Unfortunately, the pedestrian died on scene," Pulido added.

"This remains an active investigation, and at this time, nothing further is being released," the chief deputy said.
