GRANITE CITY – A Granite City resident accused of stealing over $500 in copper and other items from a local business faces felony charges in Madison County.

Travis R. Griffith, 37, of Granite City, was charged on Aug. 5, 2026 with one count each of theft (a Class 3 felony) and possession of burglary tools (a Class 4 felony).

On April 14, 2026, Griffith allegedly knowingly stole “copper, computer parts, and air conditioning” components valued at over $500. Charging documents state the stolen items were the property of Total Metals Recycling in Granite City.

Griffith was additionally charged with being in possession of “assorted power tools, suitable for use in breaking into a building” on the same date with the alleged intention of committing a theft at Total Metals Recycling.

The Granite City Police Department presented the case against Griffith, who was ordered released from custody pending trial.

All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
