BELLEVILLE - Officer Mark Harris is retiring from the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department after a career that began Aug. 6, 2001, in Belleville, where he served as a correctional officer and later worked in inmate transport and equipment support roles, the department said in a statement.

The department announced Harris’ retirement and congratulated him and Officer Rodney Wilson, who is also retiring. See the other story about Wilson's retirement.

“For 26 years, Mark Harris faithfully served the citizens of St. Clair County with professionalism, dedication, and admirable strength,” the department said.

During his time with the agency, Harris was “a valued member of the transport court crew,” the statement said, “ensuring inmates were transported to and from the courthouse safely and securely.”

The St. Clair County Sheriff's Department also said Harris served as its “unofficial weapons armorer,” helping maintain equipment and support other officers.

“The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department extends its sincere gratitude to Officer Mark Harris for 24 years of dedicated service,” the statement said. “You have left your mark on this agency, and you will be greatly missed.”
