MARYVILLE, Ill. — The Maryville Police Department concluded its holiday traffic enforcement campaign, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High, Get a DUI,” and “Click It or Ticket,” with officers issuing multiple citations but no impaired driving arrests, officials reported.

The campaign ran from Dec. 12, 2025, through Jan. 5, 2026, focusing on removing impaired drivers from the roads and ensuring motorists used seat belts properly.
During this period, officers issued eight citations for seat belt violations, 14 for speeding, two for distracted driving, and six for other traffic offenses. No arrests were made for impaired driving related to alcohol or cannabis.
“We can’t stress enough that impaired driving is a deadly gamble, no matter where you live,” said Maryville Police Sgt. Brian M. Gessi. “Whether it’s alcohol, cannabis, or any other drug, driving impaired is illegal, irresponsible, and puts lives at risk, yours, your passengers’, and everyone else’s on the road. That is why we do this.”
The enforcement campaign was administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation with federal highway funds managed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The campaign is part of Illinois’ “It’s Not a Game” statewide media outreach program aimed at reducing impaired driving and promoting seat belt use.
