GODFREY - Godfrey officials announced that Pierce Lane will be temporarily closed to through traffic starting Monday, Jan. 12, 2026, to allow Illinois American Water and its subcontractor, Loellke Plumbing, to retire an old water main line and complete related improvements.
The closure will affect the section of Pierce Lane between Surrey Court and West Delmar and is expected to last one week, reopening by Friday, Jan. 16, 2026.

The closure zone will begin just south of Surrey Court and extend to just north of the entrance to D'Adrian Professional Park.
A detour route will direct traffic east on Homer Adams to Godfrey Road, then north on Godfrey Road to Stamper Lane, and west on Stamper Lane back to Pierce Lane.
Officials said that staggered Type III barricades and road closed ahead signs will be placed strategically along the route, including at West Delmar, Stamper Lane, and several hundred feet north of Surrey Court. Detour signage will also be installed as needed.
Chris Sichra, Godfrey’s Public Safety and Emergency Services Coordinator, said local first responders, mutual aid partners, local bus companies, and the Madison County Transit (MCT) have been notified to adjust their response routes accordingly. He urged residents and motorists to plan alternate routes during the closure.
Officials cautioned that adverse weather conditions could delay the project timeline.
