(BC Photography)GRANITE CITY — Officer Tyler Timmons of the Granite City Police Department has been released from the hospital and is recovering well following a shooting on Dec. 5, 2025, Granite City Chief of Police Gary Brooks said on Friday, Dec. 12, 2025.

Officer Timmons returned home Friday night with a massive procession of law enforcement vehicles and a large U.S. flag draped above a Granite City highway by fire trucks.

Timmons was shot in the afternoon of Dec. 5 while responding to a call in the 2000 block of Johnson Road in Granite City with other officers. A man fired multiple shots, striking the officer. Timmons was immediately transported from the scene to a St. Louis hospital with injuries on that day.

The suspect, identified as D.J. Marshall, has been charged in connection with the shooting and was apprehended after an intense search that involved many law enforcement agencies in Granite City that day into early the next morning.

The Granite City Police Department expressed gratitude to those who assisted with the investigation and the escort of Officer Timmons back to the department.

In a statement, Brooks said Timmons and his family are requesting privacy as he continues to heal and that there will be no further comment.
