BELLEVILLE/EDWARDSVILLE — As some of the coldest temperatures of the season approach this weekend, the St. Clair County Emergency Management Agency is urging residents to take precautions to stay warm and protect vulnerable populations. The agency advised checking on neighbors and elderly individuals and ensuring pets are kept safe from the harsh conditions.
Residents in need of a warming center can contact the United Way at 2-1-1 for updated shelter information.

The U.S. National Weather Service in Saint Louis forecasted a chance of snow on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025, and cautioned travelers to be alert for wintry conditions.
St. Louis forecasters said brutally cold air will move into the region, with wind chill values expected to drop well below zero, posing a risk of frostbite within minutes.
The NWS said temperatures are forecast to drop significantly, with highs near 24 degrees and lows around 5 degrees on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025, followed by even colder readings on Sunday, Dec. 14, with a high of 11 degrees and a low near 2 degrees.
Light snow is expected in some areas today, and more widespread snowfall is possible Saturday, increasing the likelihood of impacts on roads.
Officials emphasized the importance of not underestimating the severity of the cold weather and urged the public to take appropriate safety measures.
