A Granite City Police officer was shot around 2:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 2025, in an incident near Pizza World in Granite City, just down the street from Granite City High School.
Granite City School District officials credited the Granite City Police Department for their cooperation and communication during the event, which helped ensure all students arrived home safely.
In a statement, the district expressed appreciation for the patience and support of families as officials managed the situation.
The administration emphasized that the safety and security of students and staff remain their top priority.
