FOSTERBURG - Fosterburg Fire Protection District Chief Don Palmer reported a sledding accident involving a 14-year-old girl in a rural Straube Lane area on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 30, 2025.

Palmer said emergency responders were dispatched at 2:27 p.m. on Sunday to the Fosterburg scene.
The girl sustained an injury that affected her neck. Palmer said the injury was serious enough to warrant airlifting her by medical helicopter to a St. Louis area hospital.
“The injury impaired her neck, but it was still intact in the neck area,” Palmer said. “That was the reason for using the medical helicopter to go to St. Louis. Her vitals were stable when she was transported.”
The accident occurred on a hillside while sledding, Palmer said.
Alton Memorial Hospital Ambulance was also at the scene to assist, added Palmer. Palmer was unaware of the teen's status as of Monday morning after the incident.
Palmer encouraged anyone involved in a sledding activity during the winter to exercise caution.
