ALTON — Two women and a man were bitten by a pit bull Thursday afternoon, Nov. 27, 2025, at a residence on Hale Drive in Alton, prompting a multi-agency emergency response.
The Alton Fire Department received the alarm at 12:36 p.m. on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, for two subjects bitten by a pit bull in the 2300 block of Hale Drive. The Alton Fire Department Battalion Chief and eight total AFD personnel responded, including ambulances 1843 and 1844 and engine 1811, along with an Alton Police Department officer and Drew from Animal Control.

All three injured individuals exited the home and met firefighters in the street. One male victim sustained a bite but declined treatment to accompany a more severely injured female patient to Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. Both women and the male were transported to the hospital by two AFD ambulances.
One of the female victims reported that the dog was scheduled to be euthanized due to previous biting incidents.
The Alton Animal Control officer requested the police officer to ask the dog owner to bring the animal outside. The owner complied, leading the dog to the Animal Control truck without incident.
The pit bull was secured in the garage during the response.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the bites.
There have been four fatal pit bull attacks reported since Nov. 18 in the U.S. One was a 3-year-old female girl in Oklahoma City, Okla., on Nov. 18, then another in Tyler, Texas on Nov. 21, another in Thomasville, Ga., on Nov. 22, and the last in Sampson, N.C., on Nov. 24.
An adult male was killed by a pitbull on Jan. 13, 2025, in the 100 block of Lovejoy in Alton.
