ROXANA — The Roxana School Board announced Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2025, that Dr. Courtney Castelli will become the district’s new superintendent beginning in 2026, succeeding Debra Kreutztrager, who is retiring at the end of the current school year.

The board voted 3-2 in favor of Castelli’s appointment. She currently serves as superintendent of the Smithton School District in Smithton, Missouri, which has an enrollment of 535 students.
Castelli brings more than 20 years of experience in education, having started her career as a high school science teacher. She has also held positions as assistant principal, principal, and assistant superintendent before joining Smithton in July 2021.
Originally from Belleville, Castelli and her husband, Eric, live in Columbia, IL., with their three children. Outside of her professional responsibilities, she enjoys reading and baking when time allows.
In a message to the Smithton community on the Smithton School District website, Castelli expressed pride in the district’s mission to provide a well-rounded and world-class educational experience. She encouraged open communication, inviting anyone interested to reach out to discuss the district’s goals and progress.
The Roxana School District will transition to new leadership as Kreutztrager retires, with Castelli set to lead starting in the 2026 school year.
