Mason Shewmake.WOOD RIVER - Mason Shewmake, a senior at East Alton-Wood River High School, has been recognized for his achievements in soccer, earning a spot on the Cahokia Conference All-Conference Team for 2025. Shewmake has played soccer since he was three years old and currently plays club soccer for Gateway Rush.

Shewmake is also a Midwest Members Credit Union Male Athlete Of The Month.

“I’ve been playing since I was 3, and what I like most about playing soccer is how it has shaped me to do better and strive towards success no matter the circumstances,” Shewmake said.

Throughout his high school career, Shewmake said soccer and school have taught him discipline, teamwork, and resilience. Balancing academics and athletics has helped him become more responsible, confident, and focused in all areas of life.

He expressed gratitude toward his mother, who has been a constant source of support.

“She’s never missed a game, no matter the distance or time. She was always there to support me and push me,” Shewmake said.

Coached by Chris Johnson, Shewmake hopes to continue playing soccer at the collegiate level while pursuing a career as an athletic trainer.
