Elsie Mae Hays, 75, of Bethalto, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2024.
She was born on December 16, 1948 in Alton, IL, the daughter of Lindell Ray and Leona C. (Scherer) Bollinger. Elsie married William "Bill" Hays in Bethalto on December 11, 1971. He preceded her in death on October 21, 2014.
Elsie worked at Union Bank as a loan originator until her retirement in 2006. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Bethalto. Elsie loved the St. Louis Cardinals and football. She enjoyed playing cards. Her biggest joy was being with her grandchildren.
She is survived by a son, Todd (Ashley) Hays of Troy; her grandchildren, Camden Edward Hays and Delaney Grace Hays; a sister, Vickie Kelly of Bethalto; two brothers, Roger Bollinger of Houston, TX, and Gary (Donna) Bollinger of Cottage Hills; as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom she thought of as her own.
Along with her parents, and husband, Bill, she was preceded in death by; a brother-in-law, Dennis Kelly; and a sister-in-law, Barb Bollinger.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 6, 2024, from 3 pm until time of service at 6 pm, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Reverend Ed Smith will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and/or Back Stoppers.
